You are going to read a short excerpt over the weekend from the ethnographic study performed in Sudan by Cindi Katz, as detailed in her book Growing Up Global: Economic Restructuring and Children’s Everyday Lives. But before reading it, it’s important that you have some background on why Sudan has been a significant topic of conversation in the last ten years. Here, I’ve linked two stories that will give you some of that background:
The first is from the Anti-Defamation League, which gives you some background on the threat of genocide in Sudan between 2004 and 2005.
The second is from UNICEF, which details the threats to children in Sudan.
Please read both of these in pairs, then discuss them at your tables. Take what you learned from those links into that chapter from Growing Up Global, and we’ll take up that chapter on Monday.
